Bubble Wrapped Life

Do you feel like you live an insulated life in Hall County? I wouldn’t have asked the question if I didn’t feel like I lived in a bubble. It’s like playing bumper ball (see photo). You can run into things and bounce off. My life is sort of like playing bumper ball. I’m insulated from the problems in this world. I read. I process, and I move on.
Bumper Ball
There are wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. I read, process, and move on. There is famine in the world. As I cook hamburgers on the grill, I read that 45 million people don’t know where their next meal will come from. I process it, eat my burger, and move on.
There were over 500 mass shootings in the US in 2024. I don’t know a single victim. I’m horrified and then move on. There are fires in California. I watch the news with some interest. Millions die of infectious diseases every year. I read it. I get vaccinated, and I move on. Christians around the world are persecuted for their faith. I am appalled, but that doesn’t happen in America, so I move on.

Observing our world, I easily sit back, process, and even complain. After all, I’m in my bumper ball. It’s not going to affect me or my lifestyle.

Last week, I read Philippians 1:6 “…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

What does that verse mean for someone like me? Do I worry? Do I complain? Do I protest? What can I do living in my southern Hall County retirement community bubble? I want to finish the good work he has started in me, but what does that mean?

My prayer is, “Lord, help me be your servant.” I can’t solve the world’s problems, let alone our church’s issues, but I can be a part of God’s solution. It’s for me to find out what that is and be obedient. It’s a little step toward continuing the good work. Let’s find out what that is, pray about it, and go forth…outside the bubble wrap.
