This Sunday at CMPC (August 18, 2024)

This Sunday morning, Matt Bohling of Floursh Coaching will be our guest speaker and will be preaching "Allow God’s Tender Promises to Fuel Your Sacrificial Living" from Revelation 2:12-17.

Then on Sunday evening at 6:30pm in the sanctuary, our Summer Mission Journey reports continue with a report from The Mexico Team.
About our guest, Matt Bohling of Flourish Coaching: A native of New York (born on Long Island, raised mostly Upstate), born into an unbelieving family, Matt became a Christian in his first year of college as God bore fruit through the faithfulness witness of many Christians friends. Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) was a fixture in Matt’s life first as a student and then as a staff member. While working for Cru, and in the midst of helping plant a church in Florida, Matt sensed a call to gospel ministry.

About 25 years of ministry to churches in transition has led to Matt’s current role as Executive Director of Flourish. Flourish exists to free leaders to be effective wherever God has placed them. Flourish does this by taking pastors and other church leaders who feel stuck to come to a point of clarity and hopefulness.

Adoration of God

The Song of Ascent
God’s people sang together as they gathered and traveled together up to Jerusalem to worship God.

Oh How He Loves You And Me

Oh, how he loves you and me, Oh, how he loves you and me,
He gave his life, what more could he give?
Oh, how he loves you;  Oh, how he loves me;
Oh how he loves you and me!

Jesus to Calvary did go,  his love for sinners to show.
What he did there brought hope from despair.
Oh, how he loves you;  Oh, how he loves me;
Oh how he loves you and me!

Call to Worship
Revelation 1:4b-6
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Invocation

Declaration of Truth
Romans 5:1-5

Leader: Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

All: Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,

Leader: and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Hymn of Praise
Praise, My Soul The King Of Heaven

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven, to his feet your tribute bring;
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who like me, his praise should sing?
Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise the everlasting King.

Praise him for his grace and favor to our fathers in distress;
Praise him still the same for-ever, slow to chide, and swift to bless;
Alleluia! Alleluia! Glorious in his faithfulness.

Father-like, he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows;
In his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes;
Alleluia! Alleluia! Widely as his mercy goes.

Frail as summer’s flow’r we flourish, blows the wind and it is gone;
But while mortals rise and perish, God endures unchanging on.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise the High Eternal One.

Angels, help us to adore him; you behold him face to face;
Sun and moon, bow down before him, dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace.

The Doxology and Prayer
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him, all creatures here below.
Praise him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Hymn of Testimony
Marvelous Grace Of Our Loving Lord

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt,
Yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.

Refrain:
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin.

Sin and despair like the sea waves cold,
Threaten the soul with infinite loss;
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.

Dark is the stain that we cannot hide,
What can avail to wash it away?
Look! there is flowing a crimson tide;
Whiter than snow you may be today.

The Invitation to the Lord’s Table: Those who have not yet come to the place in their lives of trusting Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord are requested to let the elements pass. Please use this time to read Isaiah 53 (p. 613 in the pew Bible) asking God to show you the glory of his Son, Jesus Christ. If you are unsure about your relationship with Christ, please see a member of the pastoral staff or one of the elders after the service.

Amazing Love

My Lord, what love is this-  that pays so dearly;
That I, the guilty one may go free.

Refrain:
Amazing love, O what sacrifice, the Son of God, giv’n for me;
My debt he pays and my death He dies,
That I might live, that I might live.

And so they watched him die;  despised, rejected;
But O, the blood he shed flowed for me.
